A typical UC bearing unit comprises the following key components:
- Pillow Block Housing:Typically made of grey cast iron or ductile iron (e.g., UC-P suffix), featuring mounting holes (plummer block base, with bolt holes or tapped holes), providing robust support and stability.
- Outer Spherical Deep Groove Ball Bearing:The bearing has an inner ring designed to fit onto a standard cylindrical shaft (e.g., tolerance h7). Its outer ring features a spherical outer surface that seats within the housing's spherical bore.
- Sealing Arrangement:Equipped with seals on both sides (usually rubber like NBR or FKM) to effectively prevent the ingress of contaminants, dirt, and moisture while retaining internal lubricant.
- Locking Device:Primarily utilizes an adapter sleeve (eccentric or withdrawal type) combined with a lock nut and washer. This unique mechanism allows the bearing to be firmly secured to the shaft using friction, greatly simplifying mounting and dismounting processes. (Note: Some UC variants use a tapered bore inner ring with a tapered adapter sleeve).

- Self-Aligning Capability:The spherical fit between the outer ring and housing bore allows the bearing to accommodate small shaft misalignment (typically up to ±3°), compensating for installation errors or shaft deflection.
